Victoria School of Dancing has successfully been in business for over 50 years. Located in Portsmouth, Hampshire, we are a small but expanding school. Our intimate class size offers a personal and attentive teaching atmosphere and a quality of teaching reflected in the outstanding exam and competition results we achieve.![]()
The principals, Alison Forrester and Shelley Aldridge, are ex students of the previous owners, Paddy and Susan Hurlings. They trained at the school themselves from a young age and after working professionally and teaching elsewhere, have returned to Portsmouth to carry on the running of the school. Miss Hurlings has moved on to become chairman of the Tap Faculty for the ISTD, with Alison now in her first year of joining that same committee, promoting the awareness and developement of tap in the UK.
Our timetable encompasses a diverse variety of dance styles. Ballet, Tap, Modern, Limbering, Contemporary, Hip Hop, Greek and National. We employ guest teachers from various London Dance colleges and West End shows, when possible. Dance is an ever evolving art form and therefore the teaching of it should be treated in the same way. We strive to expose our students to as many facets of performance as possible, to equip them with the tools needed to succeed in the entertainment industry. We also want to encourage a level of discipline, respect and of course, a sense of fun, enjoyment and fitness.
As a recognised dance centre, we can offer coaching and exam opportunities in teaching qualifications from Foundation in Dance Instruction to Fellowship Status. Private status exam advice is available on request. Adult classes are run from time to time, depending on popularity.
